Leland girls basketball (2-0) was dominant against Bear Lake Tuesday from the first to final whistle.
“We came out strong to start the game versus an undefeated Bear Lake team and really set the tone defensively in the first half of the game. Our defensive rotations were sharp and we did a great job of executing our game plan. We had great contributions from everyone on the team and we are continuing to improve each day with a lot of room still for growth this season,” Leland coach Ryan Knudsen said.
The Comets jumped out to a 14-3 first quarter lead that stretched even further, 29-6, at halftime.
Leland would not stop in the second half, scoring in double digits in both quarters.
Leland senior Elli Miller led with 17 points, 8 steals, 5 rebounds, 5 assists; Ella Knudsen 10 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds; Lilly Connor 7 points; Kally Sluiter 7 rebounds.
The Comets will travel to Suttons Bay today for a primetime Northwest Conference battle at 7 p.m.
On Dec. 11, Leland competed in its first game of the season against Grand Traverse Academy and won 42-24.
“With it being the first game of the season we started the game out against Grand Traverse Academy a little slow, but we were able to get the nervousness out of the system and were able to execute our offensive and defensive game plan better as the game progressed and were able to pull away during the second and third quarter. This was a good first game for us though to figure out what we still need to work on as a team and start to figure out our defensive rotations,” Knudsen said.
Miller led once against with a triple-double 14 points, 12 rebounds, 11 steals, 6 assists; Lilly Connor 9 points, 6 rebounds; Ella Knudsen 7 points, 5 rebounds; Addi Waskiewicz 4 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals; Lorna Wiesen 4 points, 5 rebounds; Hadley Bison 4 points, 4 steals.
