To the editor:
A recent Leelanau Ticker stated that 1,750+ individuals signed a petition in opposition to Segment 9 of the Heritage Trail. I would hope that these people live their lives in an environmentally conscious way. Planting trees on their own property or volunteering with organizations planting trees to mitigate climate change. Limiting their use of gasoline powered engines whether cars, power boats, jet skis, snowmobiles, leaf blowers etc. Purchasing paper products made from recycled materials or bamboo (which can grow 30 times faster than trees). Avoiding the purchase of merchandise packaged in plastic, especially single use items (water bottles) opting instead for glass or metal. The earth sustains us, we need to take care of it.
