Leland group wraps giving project

Leland Women’s Civic Club members recently completed their 10th annual Christmas Giving Project, which provides clothing for infants, toddlers, and young children to Leelanau Christian Neighbors (LCN) Baby Pantry and the VFW Hall’s Holiday Needs Program. The 48-member organization collected winter jackets, snow pants, winter outfits, sweaters, onesies, pajamas, dresses and diapers for needy families in Leelanau County. More than 100 items were donated to the two organizations, along with $400 in cash to be used to purchase additional needed baby items.

This year’s project was headed by volunteers Elaine Fleezanis and Jane Kiernan, both of whom are amazed by the number of items received from club members.

The project began more than a decade ago when a volunteer from LCN’s Baby Pantry spoke at a meeting to Club Members. As the LCN representative described the Pantry’s needs, club members responded and created the Christmas Giving Project.
