The Glen Lake cooperative ski team has had a busy week heading into regionals Monday at Boyne Mountain.

Both Glen Lake teams dominated at the Clare Invitational at Schuss Mountain on Saturday.

“We had wet heavy snow falling all day but did not slow the racers down,” Glen Lake coach John Kasben said.

Glen Lake took first in the men’s competition, defeating Boyne/ Charlevoix and Mattawan. The Lakers girls’ team also won, with a dominant performance over the 11-team field.

Willa Murray finished fourth, and Lily Wolfe finished eighth in slalom with times of 1:12 and 1:13.

The race was won due to the Lakers’ depth, as Moraya Mosher (16), Elsa Carter (17), Jacqueline Hearne (21), and Amorie Mosher (28) all finished in the top-30.

In GS, Wolfe led in third, and Murray was fifth with times of 59.56 and 59.94. The Lakers were solid again as Hearne finished 14th and Carter 16th.

On the boys’ side, Justin Thompson, Miles Luther, and Ben Stoops finished second, fourth, and fifth, while Hawthorne Sutherland finished 17th overall to claim the boys’ victory.

Thompson once again finished second in slalom, Stoops finished fourth, Luther fifth, and Sutherland finished 14th.

The Glen Lake Ski Team raced at the Graying Slalom Hootenanny Race at the Otsego Club in Gaylord on Friday.

This was a slalom-only race, with both a morning and afternoon event, just like a normal invitational race, except without a Giant Slalom.

“It was a great day with great snow and sunshine,” Kasben said.

In the morning slalom race, Thompson and Stoops finished second and third overall with two-run combined times of 48.96 and 50.56. Sutherland and Luther finished eighth and 10th to give Glen Lake the win, followed by Mount Pleasant in second place and Caledonia in third place.

In the afternoon race, Thompson led the Lakers with a first-place finish, while Stoops (4) and Luther (5) finished in the top-10. Glen Lake finished second, behind Mount Pleasant.

Mount Pleasant was declared the winner, decided by a fifthseeded skier, while Glen Lake also finished with 51 overall points.

On the girls’ side, Wolfe finished third, followed by Carter and Moraya Mosher in seventh and eighth place, respectively. Amorie Mosher finished 11th in the morning race. The Lakers finished second overall on the girls’ side. In the second race, Wolfe and Murray led the Lakers with third and fourthplace finishes. Carter and Moraya Mosher rounded out the top 10 with ninth and 10th place finishes, respectively.
