To the editor:
Does Sheriff Borkovich stand behind Trump’s pardoning of the January 6 rioters?
It was not the “day of love” Trump indicated. It was a sickening attack on democracy and the rule of law. Only once did Trump call for his assembled group to go peacefully to the Capitol, but 19 times called them to fight with damning admonitions like “we fight like hell, and if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore” and “we will never give up we will never concede.“ We saw the police being kicked, stomped, beaten with sticks and flag poles. They were tased, crushed in doors and assaulted with bear spray. When sheriff Borkovich was called to task about going to Grand Rapids to stand behind candidate Trump, he said he had an opportunity to “listen and see what they can do to make things better” referring to his critics as “haters “and said “if they want to live in a world of darkness and hate they’re free to do it but it’s not my world.”
I call on Sheriff Borkovich to denounce the darkness and hate inflicted on his fellow police officers, members of Congress, the American people and the Constitution of the United States. I ask that he write an open letter to the editor in support of his fellow police officers and condemn the unprecedented pardon of all the January 6th rioters.
Please don’t let the pardoning of these criminals be a part of your world.
