Glen Lake wrestling is sending five wrestlers to the regional competition Saturday and Sunday after a passionate performance at districts over the weekend.
The boys compete Saturday at Charlevoix and the girls will compete Sunday at Cadillac with both starts at 9 a.m.
Glen Lake’s Caden Sheehan finished second (138); Abraham Feeney third (144); Isaac Schinella third (106); Trecyn Arnold fourth (157); Jacob Peplinski fourth (215).
Arnold lost his first match but turned around and won his last two to make his way to the first regional appearance.
“My goal was to get to the next match. Setting a new goal every time, just to win my match,” he said.
Feeney remained focused throughout the entire day, trying to block out the distracting atmosphere. As the sophomore heads into regionals, Feeney is preparing to face bigger and better competition in the 138 pound division. The biggest difference from his freshman to sophomore year has been experience and he hopes it helps him at regionals.” I just focused on wrestling my best each match and I’ve learned this year to peak at the right time,” Feeney said. “I have to wrestle like I did before, not worrying about what’s to come or letting any of the other stuff get in my head.”
For the girls, Glen Lake senior Emily Alaimo dominated her way to a district championship at the 105 pound division. She will advance to regionals at Cadillac Sunday.
Laker senior Emily Alaimo punched her ticket to regionals with a district championship at 105.
Alaimo took care of a higher ranked opponent.
“It just felt like another tournament for me,” she said.
Alaimo took care of business in her three matches with three straight falls (pins).
Alaimo will face top competitions in the state for the right to go to the state competition including the number 1 seed.
“I want to wrestle my best at regionals,” she said. “I want to see how I am compared to them.”
