Enable retribution?

To the editor:

So much is happening so fast to our country and its institutions, with so many actions to our government being questioned. Much discussion has questioned the validity of and reason for these actions. Are they temporary, permanent, or as stated ... retribution?

Our government is defined in our Constitution — the legal document that provides process for how our country works. How can a President take an oath, with hand on the Bible, to protect the Constitution of the United States, without a clear understanding (or acceptance) of the components of the Constitution? Has Mr. Trump read and studied our Constitution?? Does he understand (or care) why the three branches of government were established (surely lawyers around him do)?

To avoid enabling ultimate power in one person, the Founding Fathers constructed a document intending to prevent creating a dictatorship or Kingdom and worded the document accordingly. The legal processes established by the Constitution are complicated, continue to evolve over time, and have been exposed to interpretation, but should not be disregarded or misinterpreted for one’s personal gain or power. No one person should have the power at will to disregard what has been accepted by the voting population at large as law for over 200 years.

Mr. Trump has grown up pushing the law . . . we should all care to what extent he flagrantly disregards the legalities established for his office. Those that are not being followed affect us all, now and in the future.
