To the editor:
I find it interesting that our Leelanau County Sheriff’s Department can’t seem to find the time, method, or staffing to enforce the laws that govern bicyclists on the road, laws that govern fireworks, or parking. Yet I see a headline in this paper that the Sheriff’s office can somehow find the time, method and staffing to offer their support to the ICE raids should those occur in Leelanau County. There are some residents of this county that are not going to the food pantries because of the color of their skin as they are afraid they will be swept up, as have other US citizens, in raids. Does the Sheriff’s Department have a plan to prevent this from happening? How many of those that live here have been accused or convicted of a violent crime? If there are none, why should the Sheriff’s Department be wasting our taxpayer dollars chasing people who are not a threat to the citizens of Leelanau County?
