Nachazel Memorial Snowball Tournament

The 11th Annual Brian Nachazel Snowball Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 22 beginning at 9 a.m.

“(The snowball tournament) is in Brian’s memory and we are continuing helping people that need it,” Rebecca (Nachazel) Goff said.

Goff is the sister of Brian Nachazel, who tragically died in an automobile accident in August 2014.

Since the snowball tournament started, they have raised close to $187,000 or families in need.

“Because of our little community, in remembrance of Brian can you believe it?! Let’s make this the best year yet!” Goff said.

This years event will help three recipient in their battles including Brenda Bugai, Kelly Florip, and Kathy Waslawski.

Bugai, a Cedar resident and owner of Cedar emporium and Sweeties in Cedar, has had at least seven surgeries since 2016 and is experience much pain.

For years, Brenda, a Glen Lake graduate, took care of her daughter Paige who dealt with disabilities her entire life. The long hospital stays with Paige and caring for her were emotionally and financially draining and also took a big toll on Brenda’s physical health. After Paige died in 2016, Brenda’s own physical ailments resulted in two knee replacement surgeries, and four shoulder surgeries over a period of 8 years.

Florip is currently in cancer remission and has began having trouble paying or flat out denied for important preventative cancer scanning that can cost upwards of $8,000 Goff said. Waslawski is another cancer patient who is traveling downstate to receive medical attention.

This year will feature six softball teams with a snowy background. Last year saw no snow and five softball teams. Attendees of the tournament can show their support through a 50/50 silent raffle with over 100 items in the Cedar Fire Hall. Plenty of food will be on the scene to satisfy your taste buds and sweatshirts will also be available at the event.

The teams will have six males and four females. Batting order will have two males in a row, followed by a female, with no pitching arch limit.
