Boondoggle

To the editor:

Stop calling Sunset Shores community drainfield project a sewer. A real sewer would handle both liquids and solids. Solids must remain on each property and be pumped as needed by a commercial service anyway. There is no H.O.A. in existence to manage future maintenance costs. If it clogs, who ya gonna call Clog Busters? If it leaks into the lake, who ya gonna call Leak Busters? Sunset Shores is a private road so Leelanau County doesn’t even maintain it.

Snow plowing, seasonal pot hole filling, and fallen tree removal are accomplished by a half dozen residents at our expense. Many of 32 owners don’t bother to help reimburse us for their fair share. We have learned to accept holding tanks as the best solution. The whole east side of north Lake Leelanau needs a real sewer with a treatment plant. All Leland Township taxpayers are going to end up being sucked into this. The Board must stop it NOW. Meanwhile, we are supposed to deliver our $40,000 check to the Township Treasurer by March 15.
