To the editor:
An open letter to Rep. Jack Bergman: Sir, I know you are a military man. I know you are a good Hayekian who believes in the rule of law. We talked about that once face to face in your office in Traverse City, remember?
With that in mind, I hope you read the recent guest essay in the NYT by Frank Kendall, until last month Secretary of the Air Force, who writes that we have a “rogue president” who is “waging war on the rule of law.”
Sir, speak up! Tell the country that Kendall is right! Are you afraid that no one will listen to one representative from Michigan? Get some attention. Try casting just one vote in the house against the party line. With the slim GOP majority, that will get your name in the headlines and show that you put the fate of our democracy ahead of one partisan vote. Remember, Benjamin Franklin said we have a Republic, but only if we can keep it. Help make sure we do!
