Peace without payment

To the editor:

Three years ago, I had the opportunity to visit the Slavik Evangelical Church on Silver Lake Rd. Putin had invaded Ukraine and Americans were rallying to support this sovereign nation. As I drove from Empire to Grawn, I passed many blue and yellow flags flying in support of Ukraine. When I got to the church, parking was at a premium and a line of people stretched out of the church and well into the parking lot. Others, like me, had come to purchase a delicious meal with proceeds to be sent to Ukraine. When I got home, I thought how wonderful it was to feel our community coming together to support such a worthy cause.

Three years later, the cause is still worthy! Under the leadership of Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian people have fought valiantly for their country. Now is the time for us to act again. Be sure our elected officials know that Putin started this conflict and we don’t need to extort money from Ukraine for a peace deal. At the end of this war Ukraine will need all of her resources. An honorable peace should be all we seek.
