To the editor:
Is America a Republic or a Democracy?
A Republic is a form of government that is ruled by laws/ constitution. A democracy is a form of government that is ruled by a majority.
Americans rights are protected by the constitutional laws and Bill of Rights. A government rule by majority vote would make America unstable and subject to ever changing rules.
Example: Republic is a speed limit sign for all traffic, while a democracy allows the driver to decide the speed limit based on the majority vote in the vehicle. Or, the family’s meals determined by the children’s majority vote: Pizza and ice cream for every meal?
Our constitution is the longest lasting proven document in the world that cannot be discredited. We vote for the person(s) that will honor and maintain our constitutional rights in America.
Thus, America is a constitutional republic administered through a democratic process.
