Congratulations to all winter sports basketball teams on a terrific 2024-25 season.
The Glen Lake boys basketball and Leland girls basketball teams were the last ones standing. Glen Lake wrestling had a historic second season in program history.
Teams came together and performed their best when it mattered most.
As each season ends and each chapter closes, I’m lucky to witness these athletes’ remarkable careers. I truly believe that competition, development, and teamwork play an integral role in guiding student-athletes into great professionals and even better people.
The Glen Lake wrestling team had four boys and one girl fight their way to the state championship tournament. This was the first time a Laker had competed in the state tournament since the turn of the century. With the program growing, I’m excited about what year three will bring the young Lakers.
There’s no doubt that the wrestling program has helped find student-athletes another passion to fall in love with.
The Glen Lake boys basketball team won the Northwest Conference, a district championship, and a regional final appearance. Glen Lake junior Jacob Plamondon scored his 1,000th point this season and led the state in both points and rebounds for some time this season.
The Glen Lake cooperative ski team completed its first season with a team that consisted of the Lakers, Lake Leelanau St. Mary, Leland, Benzie, and Frankfort. The Lakers won the Lake Michigan Ski Conference for both the boys and girls divisions.
Leland girl’s basketball had a remarkable run, taking the Northwest Conference by storm and finishing third overall while advancing to the district championship. The Comets boys basketball team, after a tough regular season, turned on the jets and won twice in the tournament en route to the district championship, where Leland lost to TC Christian. This was one of the season’s best stories after only winning three games in the regular season.
Glen Lake and Suttons Bay girls basketball showed resilience despite a rough season in a gauntlet of a Northwest Conference.
I’m excited for the weather to get warmer and spring sports to kick off. It should be a very exciting softball, baseball, track, girls soccer, and boys golf season for Glen Lake, St. Mary, Leland, Suttons Bay, and Northport.
