Ukraine support still needed

To the Editor:

Recently, I wrote a letter to Representative Jack Bergman urging support for Ukraine.

In response to my plea for continued U.S. support for Ukraine, I received a reply from Bergman prioritizing an “America First” agenda.

While acknowledging Ukrainian bravery, the response emphasized conditional aid, demanding clear objectives, financial accountability, and a defined exit strategy.

This stance diverges sharply from my call for unwavering allyship and defense of global democracy, especially in light of documented Russian atrocities.

The response’s alignment with Trump’s negotiation-focused approach, rather than a firm stance against Russian aggression, raises risks and issues.

Furthermore, the underlying philosophy of unchecked executive power, evident in the “America First” doctrine, exemplifi es the abuse of the Unitary Executive Theory (UET), as discussed in the recent publication of my letter, ‘Branches of Government’ (February 20, 2025).

When an administration prioritizes its own agenda over established alliances and democratic principles, it erodes the very foundations of our government.

It’s imperative that we demand accountability and reject interpretations of executive power that disregard the Constitution and the will of the people. Ukraine’s fight is not just about money; it’s a battle for democracy we must not abandon.
