League of Women Voters ‘accessibility’ panel set

The League of Women Voters Leelanau County will host a program about community accessibility on Wednesday at noon in the lower level of the county building.

“Universally Accessible Leelanau?” is a public forum on community access and will address the question of how Leelanau County can ensure that its places, spaces, and services are designed for people of all abilities, including those born with a disability and those facing physical challenges over time.

In this latter category are those retirees and other older people whose abilities may be changing in away that requires.

The term “universal access” describers an environmental that allows all people, regardless of their abilities, to fully participate in the activities of their community.

During the forum, participants will learn why accessible environments are important to residents and visitors.

A Leelanau resident will describe her experience accessing the county and learn how playgrounds can be improved to accommodate children with varying abilities. Finally, the group will discover opportunities to be involved in making Leelanau a more accessible community.

All are welcome to this free, public forum. Attendees are invited to bring their own sack lunch. A brief member meeting will follow the public forum.
