Raises on agenda in Cleveland

Salary increases totaling just over $2,500 will be considered at Saturday’s the annual meeting of Cleveland Township inhabitants.

These raises, plus the proposed 2025-26 budget, will be presented at the annual gathering, scheduled for 10 a.m. at the township hall.

The proposed salaries, were approved in resolutions adopted at the board’s February meeting. They are $16,500 for the township supervisor, $22,350 for the clerk, and $19,785 for the treasurer, with each of the two trustees getting $180 per meeting.

The salaries are currently $15,585 for the supervisor, $21,650 for the clerk, $19,170 for the treasurer, and $175 per meeting for each trustee.

In February, the board also passed a truth in taxation (TIT) resolution, establishing that the township’s millage rates at 3.5402 mills, including a 0.5402 standard operating millage reduced slightly by Headlee rollbacks, fire/emergency services millage through Cedar Area Fire & Rescue at 2.5 mills, and a road repair and maintenance millage at 0.5 mills.

These figures are included in the proposed 2025-26 spending plan at outlines what funds are expected to come in and go out.

Proposed income is ID’d at $798,856, up from $707,334 this year. Income from property tax revenue is expected to come in at $157,095, down about $230 from this year.

The millage for township-designated roadways was approved in August and is helping the township work towards about $350,000 to repave the Scenic Mountain View Estates area, Fairway Drive, and Bluff Drive/ Circle.

This represents the biggest jump in revenue, going from $26,918 this year to $82,000.

On the expense side of the ledger, $1,013,508 in costs are outlined. The largest expense during the coming year is identifi ed for roads — $460,000, up from $128,660 this budget year.

Fire protection is the next biggest expense for the rural township — $346,043, up about $20,000 from 2024-25. Cleveland is part of Cedar Area Fire & Rescue and contributes toward operations of the department which also includes Centerville, Solon and Kasson townships.

Other items included in expenses is replacement of the hall’s thermostat with air conditioning and a new furnace with natural gas, as well as replacing their extra oil tank.
