Leland Twp. annual meet Saturday

Leland Township will hold its annual meeting on its proposed budgets on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Old Art Building, and is set to consider salary increases for members of the board except the treasurer, who did not request for a raise this year.

At the township’s regular meeting in February, the board approved various salary resolutions that are not final until approved at the annual meeting. The highest proposed increase of 9.4% is for the clerk position, whose total salary if approved would be $55,000. Last year, the pay for the position increased by 6.9%, going from $46,746 to $50,250. The increase reflects additional election duties now required of the clerk. Leland Township Supervisor Clint Mitchell previously said that all positions are also based on the state’s consumer price index (CPI), which is not just used to help calculate the property tax increases, but is a measure of the price changes of goods and services in the state.

The supervisor and trustee positions will all see a 3.1% increase in salary pay if approved as well. The compensation for the supervisor’s post will increase from $33,075 to $34,100, while the trustee pay will increase from $7,560 to $7,800. The Leland Township treasurer position will stay at its current salary rate of $44,100.

According to the township’s proposed 2025-26 budget, its total general fund expenditures are $886,009.48, a slight increase from the projected 2024-25 expense total of $871,179.70. In Mitchell’s supervisor annual meeting report, he said the township has developed a sustainable operating budget that not only funds the day-to-day functions of the township, but also contributes to infrastructure and park improvements on an annual basis.
