OLUMN What about vaping?

The use of electronic-cigarettes is still pretty new, so long term health consequences are relatively unknown.

There have been reports of serious health problems from vaping including seizures and serious lung damage up to and including death.

The act of vaping looks a lot like cigarette smoking, bu instead of burning tobacco it is heating up a liquid that becomes a vapor which is inhaled.

E-cigarettes or vape pens come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some are intentionally designed to look like other common items, such as a USB drive, to help conceal them from parents or other authority figures.

The actual content of the vapor being inhaled includes a wide variety of chemicals, some known to be harmful, some flavorful or pleasant smelling and some addictive.

Most vapor liquids contain nicotine and some have marijuana as well.

Some people are using vaping as a step toward ending cigarette use. The results of this technique are mixed.

The long term effects of vaping are still being analyzed, but the research leans toward recommending avoidance.
