Bids for road materials were approved this week by the Leelanau County Road Commission.
Board members Tuesday unanimously supported recommendations made by manager Brendan Mullane.
The first was a bid from Bit-Mat Products for chip seal emulsion at a cost of $567,335, more than $100,000 greater than the next highest bid submitted by Michigan Paving and Materials (MPM). The unit price from the company was $1.93 per gallon.
Bit-Mat also had the lowest bid for fog seal emulsion, quoted at $1.53 per gallon for a total of $109,861. Michigan Paving and Materials, the other bidder, came in at $126,736.
Chipseal emulsion was bid at a cost $511,570 by Bit-Mat. MPM also came in higher for this product at $616,350.
Cold patch materials were bid at $126 per unit by Reith-Riley and $142.50 per unit for delivery.
On the dust control front, road commissioners accepted a bid from Beckham Production for bulk delivery of liquid calcium chloride for.13 cents per unit, plus a delivery rate of $172 per hour.
In other business during the bi-monthly meeting, the commissioners learned from Mullane that the National Park Service has announced they are planning another prescribed burn between now and mid-May; off the end of South Bohemian Road.
