Budget/raises OK’d in Kasson Twp.

Budget expenses totaling just over $409,688 were endorsed at the Kasson Township annual meeting March 22.

Following the annual monthly meeting, the township board approved the 2025-26 spending plan which went into effect Tuesday, April 1.

As adopted, budget revenue of $535,919 is expected. This includes $181,000 in state shared revenue; $80,000 in property tax revenue; and $18,000 from the township dumping fee at Glen’s Landfill.

However, the largest chunk in revenue, is $227,269 — a transfer in from the previous year’s surplus.

Township coffers will include property tax revenue of $367,000 for the extra-voted millage for fire and rescue services.

Fire/safety is the single largest expense for the township. Of the $367,000, just over $301,000 is for operating expenses and an additional $25,600 is earmarked for capital outlay.

During the board’s February meeting, separate salary resolutions were adopted, providing no salary increases for the clerk, treasurer and township supervisor.

This allowed annual meeting attendees to act on the no-raise resolutions or to increase compensation. And that’s what they did.

Compensation for the clerk and treasurer was increased 3%, going from $19,200 to $19,776. A 3% raise increased compensation for the supervisor to $14,934, an increase of $434.
