To the editor:
As a retired educator and grandmother, I have seen the academic benefits of offering children the opportunity of attending preschool. Getting an early start in school encourages social and emotional skills, the children learn to interact with others and they build skills that are not only essential for success in school but also for adulthood.
The scholastic skills learned at the preschool level also reduce the need for remedial programs.
I would like to encourage parents and community leaders to prioritize early childhood education programs.
