To the editor:
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the ongoing Sunset Shores Sewer Project. When residents signed the 2013 petition, it was a request to investigate the feasibility of such a project — not an authorization to begin development. Yet, over a decade later, we find ourselves burdened with a vastly different project than what was originally proposed.
The initial cost estimate for the project was $365,000. Today, that price has skyrocketed to over $1.25 million. This staggering increase has occurred through at least five separate cost hikes, none of which were properly communicated to residents. Transparency and accountability have been sorely lacking throughout this process.
Furthermore, the scope of the current project bears little resemblance to what was originally described. Residents deserve to know why the plan has changed so dramatically and why we are now expected to shoulder a financial burden far beyond what was initially proposed.
Before any further action is taken, we need clear answers. What justifies these cost increases? Why weren’t residents informed? And most importantly, how can we ensure that this project is managed responsibly moving forward? It’s time for those in charge to provide the transparency and accountability that Sunset Shores residents deserve.
