The Leland School Board of Education has scheduled interview activities for their finalist in the search for a next Superintendent of Schools.
Ryan Huppert, who will defend his doctoral dissertation at Harvard University this next week, will return to Leland on April 23.
He will spend much of the day meeting with students and staff in the school prior to a community open house and formal interview.
Huppert has over 20 years in public education including several years leading the prestigious Grand Rapids City High School, a magnet and International Baccalaureate program, from which he was selected to the Harvard fellowship.
Members of the community are welcome and encouraged to attend the open house, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The formal interview will begin at 5 p.m. at Leland Public School.
Huppert was one of six candidates interviewed last week to replace current superintendent Stephanie Long, who is retiring at the end of the 2024-25 school year.
Also interviewed were: Hugh Potter, Ph.D. — current program officer in the United States Department of Education; David Harwood, Ph.D, current superintendent/principal at Vanderbilt Area Schools; Lisa Migazzi, current first/second grade teacher at Leland Public School and Jeremy Peplinski, current assistant principal at Leland Public School, and Sean Wightman, current middle school principal at Dowagiac Union Schools.
