To the editor:
I saw a photo taken April 5 of democrats in front of Enerdyne in Suttons Bay conducting a “protest”. (the word protest appears nowhere in the Bill of Rights or the Constitution) But what exactly is the grievance for which they peacefully assembled to seek redress? Did they think they were “protecting democracy” against imaginary depredations by the President and his special government advisor? But was not democracy protected on November 5, 2024 when Donald Trump won the Presidency in a mandate by the majority of Americans? Did he not win 31 of 50 states, every swing state, the popular and electoral vote, and nearly90%of UScounties? Were they perhaps protesting the elimination of billions of dollars of government fraud, waste and overspending? Or the deportation of thousands of illegal alien gang members who had murdered and raped Americans? Maybe they were protesting the revitalization of America’s industrial base and our military. Or was it having their taxes and onerous regulations reduced? It may have been the abolition of the failed Department of Education, which didn’t exist before 1979. They probably aren’t prescient enough to realize that what they were really doing, ironically, was assaulting the very democracy they claim to protect. By seeking to undo the will of the majority who support Donald Trump’s vision. Like jilted lovers they can’t seem to accept the fact that they have been given the brush by the American people. Time to put country first and party second.
