To the editor:
Representative Bergman: This letter comes to you via the newspaper since you do not answer mail except with form letters.
To represent is defined as to serve, especially in a legislative body. You are not “dedicated to serving the people of our district,” as stated on your website. Instead, you’re participating in the destruction of our nearly 250-year-old democracy, shredding every form of stability in our local government. You may have forgotten that:
• 13.3% of us are below the poverty line
• 8.4% of us are veterans
• 35%of us are above the age of 50
• There are over 7,000 family farms in your district.
I challenge you to list one thing you’re doing for these groups of YOUR constituents, given these recent actions of yours: 1. All safety nets for people living in poverty are being dismantled, even letting children go hungry and have their health care taken away.
2. Veterans are losing their jobs, their healthcare, and the services they have earned and richly deserve.
3. Seniors are facing the very real threat of losing their Social Security, once considered the safest retirement fund, and which they paid into for many decades.
4. Family farms are losing grants they were given, governmental supports they depend upon when their crops fail or markets drop, and they’ll be unable to harvest crops without migrant labor.
5. All of us are in danger of losing our healthcare and social assistance programs.
You’re NOT doing your job. You should be ashamed.
