Glen Lake senior Colebrook Sutherland broke his third individual school record with a masterful 800-meter performance at the Bruce Garland Relay at Benzie Central Friday.
Sutherland barely broke the record set by Matt Kibbey in the 1990s, by a mere 1/100th difference in between times.
“That was the first attempt and I thought I was in shape to get it. I beat it by 9/100 of a second so I’ll take it,” Sutherland said.
This won’t be the last time Sutherland attempts the 800meter record.
“People are telling me I have to go for the 400. That’ll be a lot tougher but maybe I’ll take a couple tries at that. Bigger than the record, the goal is going to be preparing for the state meet running the 800-meters, just do it as well as I possibly can, that has been the goal for the last year. Also, I want the team to continue to improve. We want to win regionals and honestly we want to see what we can place in states because we’re looking really solid and there’s a chance we could be track state champs if we keep this up,” Sutherland said.
The Lakers have only had a few meets so far this season.
Glen Lake sophomore Abraham Feeney could be chasing those records here soon as the sophomore has been dominant on the track, finishing second in the mile and fourth in the two-mile.
Glen Lake senior Boden Fisher finished first over in the 100-meter dash with a 12.15 followed by Oliver O’Neil in third place. In the 200-meter dash Liam Palmer, Hunter Cox and Breckin Nerg impressed with 4,5,6 finishes. Palmer also finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.83.
For the girls, Carmella Julian won in the mile with a blazing time of 5:39 for a new personal record.
The Lakers 4x200 (Lydia Fosmore, Lilyan Shimunek, Janai Misner, and Emily Alaimo) and 4x400 (Fosmore, Alaimo, Shimunek, Julian) relay teams finished second overall with times of 4:25 and 1:55.
Misner and Fosmore both impressed in the 100 and 200meter dash with fifth place finishes. Glen Lake junior Jadelynn Miller finished fourth in discus with a throw of 81’ 2, and sixth in shot putt.
