Lakers dominate at Turtle Creek

Glen Lake dominated in a three-game tournament at Turtle Creek Stadium against Suttons Bay and Harbor Springs.

“It’s always fun to play at Turtle Creek, regardless of the weather or how the games turn out, and we really appreciate the opportunity,” Glen Lake coach Kris Herman said. “Overall, we played pretty clean baseball today. We pitched well, played defense well enough to get out of a couple of no-out, bases loaded jams unscathed, and hit the ball all over the yard. It was a great day.”

The Lakers took care of business in game one defeating Suttons Bay 15-0.

Glen Lake senior Tanner Crick earned the win in three innings throwing five strikeouts, walking two, and allowing three hits in the solid performance.

Fletcher Middleton led the offense going 3-3 with an RBI; Peter Gelsinger 2B, 2 RBI; Isaac Hlavka 3 RBI, 3B; Crick 2B; Jacob Peplinski 2B; Wade Daniels 3 RBI.

In game two of the tournament, Harbor Springs defeated Suttons Bay 15-0.

Glen Lake defeated Harbor Springs in the championship game 7-1. Laker senior Isaac Hlavka earned the win in 5.2 innings pitched, striking out 10 and allowing only one hit. Tristin Boze led the Lakers offensively going 3-4, with an RBI while Hlavka had a triple and two RBIs Suttons Bay fell in a pair of games last week to Manton 12-1, 4-3.

Lake Leelanau St. Mary split a pair of games against Benzie Central 4-1, 12-13 last week.

Josh Bunek was dealing from the hill in the first game, going six innings with nine strikeouts and three hits. He also went 2-3 with an RBI. St. Mary junior Cody Couturier also knocked in an RBI while going 1-3.

In the second game, Bunek went five innings and struck out six in the loss. He also went 2-4, 2 RBI. Augie Gossett went 1-3, scoring twice with two RBIs and two steals. ***

SOFTBALL

The Lakers split a pair of exciting games against Mesick Saturday.

Glen Lake’s Lily Hayes doubled in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs, and winning the first game for the Lakers.

Carlee Burdick earned the win in five innings with eight hits.

Tila Shimek had herself a day going 3-3, 3B, 4 RBI, 3 R; Hayes 1-4, 2 RBI, R, 2B.

In game two, The Lakers against Mesick 10-9.

Laila Shimek led going 1-3 with four RBIs while Jessie Pugh went 3-3, scoring three times and hitting a double. Olivia Reed also hit a double while knocking in a run and going 2-3.

The Lakers split a pair of games against Kingsley Tuesday 17-2, 11-18.

Glen Lake defeated Suttons Bay 18-3 in a pair of games last Wednesday.

Benzie Central defeated Lake Leelanau St. Mary softball last week as well 15-1, 21-3.
