The Glen Lake Community Library in Empire will host a lecture on tulips, Thursday May 1.
Linda Young will discuss the history of Tulipia, cultivated and treasured for its longnecked beauty and jewel-like colors.
During the 7 p.m. event, Young will trace the tulip’s humble beginnings as a wildfl ower in the mountains of Central Asia during the Ottoman Empire to becoming a wildly sought speculative commodity during Tulip Mania in the 17th century.
Her presentation will also explore the influence and fascination with tulips in the fine arts and decorative design, and conclude with an “arm chair” tour of tulips festivals across the globe.
