The Cub Scouts of Pack 131 held another successful food drive to collect donations for the Leelanau Christian Neighbors Food Pantry.
“This is an annual opportunity to be of service to our community “ said Cub Master Lynn Bakker. “These young Scouts promise to be helpful, and this is one way that they can show they are living up to those Scouting Ideals.”
There is a friendly competition between the smaller groups within the Pack, to see which den can build the tallest tower of the food they collect (without smashing any of it) This year the Wolf den collected and built a tower 39 inches tall, while the Webelos den built two towers, one 46 inches high and one 38 inches high.
The five bushels of food that the Cub Scouts collected weighed about 132 pounds when it was brought in to Leelanau Christian Neighbors on Monday.
“I’m glad we can help people” said Wolf Cub Logan Hutcheon. “We have fun every week at Cub Scouts” Cub Scouts is for boys and girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade. “We meet every week on Tuesday at 6 pm, at Keswick Church, south of Suttons Bay.”, said Bakker. “We have amazing events planned for the upcoming year, including building sleds out of duct tape and cardboard, and the Pinewood Derby, where we race wooden cars that we build.” Students can join Cub Scouts at any time.
