Leland sophomore Lily Connor received a free kick from senior goal keeper Ellie Miller right after she made a ridiculous one handed save to keep the game tied. Connor handled the pass and dribbled past several Harbor Springs defenders and snuck a goal past the Rams’ to put the Comets up 1-0 halfway through the second frame.

This would prove to be the game-winner as the Comets improve to 9-0 on the regular season. The Rams now have a record of 8-2.

“We played our best soccer of the season so far … It was a playoff atmosphere, every possession counted but our girls stepped up,” Leland coach Joe Burda said. Harbor Springs came out really aggressive. I think we had to match their aggression but we did and we played some really solid technical soccer.”

Leland’s defensive line stood tall all match that led to the comets offensive outshooting the Rams 14-7.

“Hopefully we build from here … Hopefully we play our best soccer against great teams.

“We are not playing down to another level, just stepping it up and finding another gear, another level in our game,” Burda said.

The Comets defeated Glen Lake 5-1 Monday.

Leland had four different goal scorers as Hadley Bison, Lucy Baldwin, Addi Waskiewicz and Wllia Murray all scored. Miller earned the win in net.

Suttons Bay notched a huge 1-0 victory over Buckley Monday.

Megan U’Ren scored while Kaelyn Kelenske had an assist, and Mackenzie Schaub tallied the shutout.

The Norse (5-4-0) traveled to Glen Lake yesterday as of press time.

On Saturday, Suttons Bay defeated Hudsonville 3-2. Madelyn Hamilton led with two goals and Ada Wetherbee scored as well.
