The Northwest Michigan Invasive Species Network (ISN) has announced its 2025 schedule of garlic mustard workbees: volunteer events to treat the invasive plant in the northwestern Michigan counties that ISN serves: Manistee, Benzie, Leelanau, and Grand Traverse. Garlic mustard grows quickly and forms dense stands, crowding out native species, like trilliums, that also grow early in the season.
The garlic mustard workbees include a two-hour shift pulling the invasive plant (except an event in Grand Traverse County, which is three hours) and all volunteers are treated to donuts.
One pulls is scheduled in Leelanau County. It is from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, May 20 at the Clay Cliffs Natural Area.
