School votes Tuesday

Two county school districts are going to voters next week with ballot proposals.

Voters in the Suttons Bay and Leland school district will vote Tuesday.

The Suttons Bay Board of Education is seeking a five-year extension of its sinking fund millage which sits at .4718 mills. If approved, the millage, effective from 2026 to 2030, will generate $359,480 the first year it is collected.

Sinking fund revenue is designated for security improvements; acquisition or upgrading technology; construction or repair of school building; and all other purposes authorized by law.

Voters in the Leland school district will see a familiar request on the ballot.

The district is seeking a oneyear operating millage renewal for 10.9013 mills. The district has renewed this millage each year since the mid-1990s.

The levy is expected to generate $5,377,836 when collected later this year. Passage of the request is required for the school district to receive state funds.
