By Meakalia Previch-Liu [email protected]

Leland Township held a special meeting Thursday to approve ballot language for the Leland Township Fire and Rescue Millage for the August 6 special election. The board also approved a second resolution to renew expired millage for funding of equipment and training for the township fire and rescue department.

The township fire and rescue department millage is for funding of township emergency medical service and firefighting operations. The township is seeking a total new millage of up to 2.9 mills ($2.90 per $1,000 of taxable value), which would be levied for three years beginning 2025 through 2027. The levy is expected to generate an estimated $2,010,104 in the first year it is levied.

The fire and rescue department equipment and training millage renewal will be increased in the amount of up to the original voted 0.50 mill ($0.50 per $1,000 of taxable value), which will also be levied for three years beginning 2025 through 2027. This levy is expected to raise an estimated $346,570 in the first year it is levied.
