Support local businesses

County business owners are on the cusp of their best time of the year — summer.

In this time of economic uncertainty, they are carrying on — finishing up any improvements to their facility; ordering merchandise and, perhaps their toughest task in this neck of the woods, hiring staff.

Oh, they’re no strangers to uncertainty. It was just five years ago when COVID pulled the rug out from everyone.

Restaurants and businesses had to pivot to outdoor seating (to maintain 6-foot separation between people) and take out food as the state and many others across the country were shut down due to the pandemic.

Some businesses are returning to life before COVID. The VI Grill in Suttons Bay is re-opening up a space where diners had previously taken breakfast.

Now, more than ever, local businesses need our support. So, here’s a few ways to help out:

• Eat a meal using only locally-sourced food from locallyowned businesses.

• Spend a morning at a local cafe or bookshop with a coffee.

• Support local artists. Find a new piece of decor from a local gallery.

• Buy a birthday gift from a local store.

• Enjoy live entertainment at a local venue.

• Put together a bouquet of fresh flowers or purchase produce at a local roadside stand.

• Start Christmas shopping early.

• Buy an ad in the local newspaper. Every little bit helps.
