To the editor:
Many, many years ago I had a conversation with an older German man, and I asked him why the people of his country had let the Nazis take over. He told me they hadn’t been aware of what was going on. While that may have been true back then, we certainly don’t have that excuse now. Trump is deliberately demolishing our democracy right under our noses, and the fascism isn’t creeping in; it’s coming like a tsunami. But we are not helpless to stop it. Every one of us is capable of doing something — writing a letter, making a phone call, joining a protest — to remind our elected officials that they work for us, and the need to do their jobs and stand up to this administration before it is too late. Let’s not be the next ones to be asked why we let fascism take over.
