The mad rush when businesses open and employers seek to fill positions is in full force.
From restaurants to cleaners and everything in between, advertisements for jobs are all over the place.
The average wage for jobs in Leelanau County is roughly $18 an hour, with most employers reaching that mark, according to MIT Living Wage Calculator.
For The Homestead in Glen Arbor, America’s Freshwater Resort is hiring full-time, part-time, seasonal, and yearround positions in rooms, food and beverage, recreation, buildings and grounds, and sales.
“It’s true there are many jobs almost everywhere,” Homestead owner Bob Kuras said. “If someone is looking for a career, that is what we offer.”
The Homestead will be bringing its popular Mountain Music Program back this summer with a series of concerts on top of the hills of The Homestead.
America’s Freshwater Resort is looking for people who will take care of guests and the environment while redefining hospitality, ‘one smile at a time.”’ For local winery Brengman Family Wines, Ed Brengman is always looking for a few prospects who can join the team.
“We just picked up a few prospects and are looking for people who are willing and able. The housing aspect is tough … Pay compensation is important and higher now,” Brengman said.
Lake Leelanau and Suttons Bay Northway gas stations have an opening for a part-time or full-time cashier and multiple other summer positions.
“Perfect for retirees. Students are welcome. We offer flexible schedules, very competitive 401K, and paid vacations,” owner Jeff Plamondon said.
Another local hire is Glen Arbor Outdoor, which is seeking ground maintenance positions.
“The properties we maintain are all in this area (Glen Arbor), so little distance driving is involved once you get here, and company trucks are available,” Bob Ihme said in an ad. “This position includes grounds maintenance - landscaping, trash removal, the occasional moving of furniture and other items, and a fun crew to work with daily.”
