NWMI provides area residents and visitors with roughly 20 fishing tournaments from now until October.
Most tournaments occur on Wednesday nights and some on Saturday mornings.
These events are called “Lucky Man Contests,” designed so anyone can win, from the novice to the retired seasoned hobbyist.
NWMI structures their contests to win with one lucky fish, over several species per lake, and pay down several entries, every Wednesday Night (6 p.m. to 10 p.m.). Times may vary, depending on the time of year.
Some of the events coming in the month of May include tournaments at Leland Public Marina (May 14); Elk Rapids East Bay (May 21); Lake Skegmog (May) 28.
The NWMI fishing club prides itself on keeping fees minimal while allowing for rewarding payouts on inland lakes and big water in the northwest Michigan area.
Wednesday tournaments are popular, family-friendly, educational, and all-around great fun.

NWMI fishing club’s most rewarding event of the season is the free veterans’ fishing event, which hosts and provides labor support.
Veterans are matched with boats for the open water events and are accommodated to comfortably participate in our ice fishing events. All Veterans and active-duty military are welcome.
One of the most well-attended events is the kids’ event. The NWMI fishing club holds five free kids’ events consisting of Discovery Pier Kid’s Fishing Day in Traverse City, Take a Kid Fishing Day in Frankfort, and the NWMI hosted Kid’s Mobile Trout Pond in Kalkaska and Cadillac, and a live Kid’s Fishing Day in Interlochen. They donate their labor and fish cleaning abilities to the Rotary Club’s Kids’ Maritime Fishing event in Traverse City.
The Northwest Michigan Fishing Club is the central point of contact for the fisheries that contribute to enhancement projects in the northwest lower Michigan area that keep our local Fishery thriving.
