Suttons Bay baseball captured its first series win Tuesday with a 18-3, 11-7 victory over Brethren during a Northwest Conference double-header.

“It just feels good all around, the guys are showing improvement,” Suttons Bay coach Kaleb Grant said. “They know what needs to be done and they just go out there and get it done.”

Suttons Bay pitcher Shane O’Boyle won the first game handedly as he tossed six strikeouts over three innings while allowing over four hits.

O’Boyle then went 2-4, scoring three times and knocking in one RBI. Suttons Bay senior Gavin Schichtel went 2-2, 3 R, RBI and Ty Brenner took home the win from the mound in the second game.

“I started off kind of slow. I couldn’t really get my curve ball in there, but I just started finding the zone, started working my foot into the mound a little, making it my home,” O’Boyle said. “I was pumping them down there, they were getting a few hits, but my outfielders were working pretty good and, getting some outs ... I’m just hoping we keep this energy.”

O’Boyle admits that the wins are a confidence boost for an upand- down season so far.

“Sometimes when we lose, we get a little down in the dumps, but after these two wins, I think we’re feeling a little better, feeling a little more confident with the bat,” O’Boyle said.

In the second game, Ty Brenner was dishing out strikeout after strike-outs with 13 K’s in five innings pitch, allowing only five hits.

Brenner also led offensively going 2-4, 2 RBI, 3 R. Schichtel went 1-2 with a double and two RBIs.

“I had a good day, I was locating pretty well. We pitched pretty good, so happy to be with it,” Brenner said. “We really figured out what we needed to do and made the plays win the game.”

Last week, Suttons Bay split a series with Onekama 3-13, 12-7.

Coach Grant is excited to see the players confidence growing.

“Confidence is a huge thing. They feed off each other’s energy ... We gotta work through those humps, and have the best positive mentality we can,” Grant said.
