Leelanau Christian Neighbors’ (LCN) “Run for the Roses” Derby Party, Friday at The Homestead Resort, was a resounding success, raising over $45,000 to support its vital programs.
The evening was filled with Kentucky Derby excitement, delicious refreshments, and the signature “greatest two minutes in sports.” Attendees embraced the Derby spirit, donning stylish hats and bow ties while enjoying the beautiful setting of the Mountain Flower Lodge.
A highlight of the evening was the hobby horse race, where each horse represented a different LCN program. The friendly competition saw enthusiastic “bets” (donations) pour in, propelling the racers down the track. While the Neighborhood Assistance Ministry (NAM) took first in the hobby horse race and Samaritans’ Closet took first place in the pre-bets, all LCN programs were the winners. This unique fundraising element proved to be a fun and interactive way for the community to directly support the specific areas of LCN’s work that resonate with them.
“We are absolutely overwhelmed and deeply grateful for the incredible generosity of our community,” said Mary Stanton, Executive Director at LCN. “The ‘Run for the Roses’ Derby Party exceeded our expectations, and the funds raised will make a significant impact on our ability to provide essential services to our neighbors in need throughout Leelanau County. The enthusiasm for the hobby horse race was contagious, and it truly demonstrated the community’s commitment to supporting our programs.”
The success of the event was also made possible by the generous support of numerous sponsors, including Elemint Wealth Management, K-Line, Easling Construction, Hansen Foods, Bob and Kathy Laba, Acrisure Insurance, ASH Contracting, Bahle’s, Bay Books, Bayshore Oil and Propane, Leelanau Computer Repair, Independent Bank, Mercantile Bank, Poppy Things, Shady Lane Market, Sunset Lodge, and Tri Gas Distributing.
Leelanau Christian Neighbors extends its heartfelt thanks to all who attended, donated, volunteered, and sponsored the “Run for the Roses” Derby Party. The funds raised will directly benefit LCN’s Food Pantry, Baby Pantry, Blessings in a Backpack, Neighborhood Assistance Program, and Samaritans’ Closet, ensuring continued support for Leelanau County residents facing hardship.
