Comets tie; Norse prevail

Leland and Traverse City St. Francis resulted in a thrilling 0-0 tie Saturday.

Div. 4 No. 3-ranked Leland won the first game April 21, 3-1, before the Gladiators returned the favor the following week, 2-0.

“We played great soccer,” Leland coach Joe Burda said. “We did everything we wanted to do. We just didn’t put one in the net, which was frustrating for all of them. St. Francis is a great team. We match up really well with them. Maybe it should end in a tie because in a three-game series with them, we’re that close with them.”

Leland midfielder Ariah Amin pushed the pace all over the field. Elli Miller stood tall in the net against various Gladiator challenges.

The Comets came out physical and had the Gladiators on their back foot, but they still didn’t generate enough quality answers to get past St. Francis’s stout defense.

The second half was even more physical as the Comets controlled most of the half.

Leland and Glen Lake played yesterday as of press time.

Suttons Bay defeated glen Lake 5-0 Monday behind an impressive performance from the Norse. Suttons Bay defeated Glen Lake both times this season.

Suttons Bay also lost to Manistee 3-2 and defeated TC Bulldogs 3-1 to finish out the last week.

Goals were scored by Clarice Bardenhagen and Madelyn Hamilton. Assists by Megan Lint and Megan U’Ren against Manistee.
