To the editor:
I am perplexed by the concern over conflicting roles of having the Leelanau County Administrator also serve on the board of Cherryland Electric. Local government shouldn’t be a competition over loyalties. Rather, local governments should cooperate and support each other, and having someone who is central to county administration on the board of the local electric utility makes sense to me. Think of the benefits of this next time we have a huge ice storm that requires immediate, significant, sustained and coordinated response from many counties and public electric utilities. Having representatives on multiple such public entities will also help to better plan for these events in the future.
