Valeta Marie Kalchik (Morgan), or as most of us knew her as Teta, was born on March 1, 1935 in Traverse City, Michigan to her loving mother and father, Maudie Morgan(Nemic) and Chase Morgan.

Teta was a kind, loving, energetic and spiritual person. She grew up in Ahgosatown (Omena), Michigan on the shimmering shores of the Grand Traverse Bay and had a sincere connection with the water and surrounding nature. She belonged to a big family and lived in a robust and beautiful stone house with her adored father and mother, and her many brothers and sisters. Teta loved reminiscing about her childhood on the sentimental shoreline; it had a lasting impression on her.

Teta married Stanley Kachik, of Omena in 1955. They bought land on County Rd. 631, which is now N. Overlook Road, and there Stanley built the family home using milled lumber from their land. Teta missed her shoreline undoubtingly, yet was able to enjoy her cherished water down at her childhood home and Omena Beach. Teta and Stanley had two wonderful children, Kirby Kalchik and Carnie Bunker(Kalchik). During the kid’s childhood, Teta was a busy mother, wife and homemaker. Teta came from a big family and as did her husband, Stanley, the home was always busy with extended family visiting and making memories. Teta loved gardening and tended a large bountiful garden and created idyllic landscaping around the home. She loved adventure, the whole family would often travel to Florida dn the surrounding states to visit family.
