To the editor:
Northport is currently having an argument over where affordable housing should be built. My opinion is different however. Another question seems to be being ignored.
The Northport sewer fees make affordable housing, not so affordable. The added cost for hook up, adds quite a lot to any housing project. I have heard talk about the NLUTA discounting the connection fees for affordable housing projects, and have a few questions. First, is discounting the fees even legal? Second, how can the NLUTA justify lowering connection fees? Third, will the NLUTA be transparent about what they will offer any project, or will it take a FOIA request? My point here, is that every resident that lives in the sewer district has had to pay the full amount of the assessment, and hook up fees, and it would be a spit in the face to all of them, if discounts are offered simply to make affordable housing, affordable.
