Film examines journey of women

The Bay Community Theatre will host special showings of “She Rises Up,” the inspiring film that tells the real-life journeys of three women who are working to raise their communities, and more specifically the women of their communities, above poverty through the local businesses they labor to grow, while dealing with the legal and cultural barriers endemic to their countries.

Nearly one-third of all countries have laws that limit a woman’s access to work. There remains for them limited access to bank account, property inheritance, and certain types of jobs.

The film will introduce three women: Gladys Yupanqui of Peru who stared a mini market; Magatte Wade of Senegal who is creating a cosmetics manufacturing company; and Selyna Peiris of Sri Lanka, who is expanding her family’s textile company.
