To the editor:
I read the interview between Alan Campbell and Jack Bergman with interest. As I write this message, on Memorial Day, I am thankful for our freedoms, our flag is flying and I am thinking of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. If I were with Congressman Bergman today, I would ask him what sacrifices he is willing to make to defend our freedoms from autocracy.
I value the freedoms afforded to this country because we have checks and balances. I haven’t heard the congressman speak about the president’s rants against judges. I haven’t heard the congressman speak about the pardoning of rioters who tried to steal an election and harmed Capitol police officers. Jack Bergman said nothing when Donald Trump accused General Milley of treason. As recently as last week, Jack Bergman voted with republicans for a bill that would severely restrict the federal courts’ authority to hold government officials in contempt if they violate judicial orders.
