To the editor:
In contrast to the recent letters published in this paper, I applaud the Leelanau Conservancy for their creation of a wonderful trail system! The trails for biking are well designed, minimally impactful on the Forest, and provide a superb outdoor recreational experience. The trails are not very wide and therefore, they are one way only. My wife and I rode the various trails two to three times each week in the summer and fall. We love the setting and the aerobic exercise of trail riding. Typically, we would find about 5 cars in the parking lot and a busy time would see 10 cars. The other riders were usually residents of the Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties. There were solo riders, small groups and families. Parents brought children to ride and some of us were not so young. I found the other riders to be generally polite and respectful of others, as well as the natural area. There was no noise or loud music. I turn 70 this year and my wife is right behind me. We ride for the exercise and joy of gliding thru the woods. It really is a fantastic facility and the Conservancy should be applauded for bringing this project to Glen Arbor. Unlike residents of Grand Traverse County who travel a long way to experience this park, we have easy access to a unique experience.
