For the first time in more than a century, ferry service between Leland and the Manitou Islands in Lake Michigan will not be offered this summer due to a combination of factors including record high water levels, shrinking National Park Service budgets, and the COVID-19 pandemic. “We’re devastated,” said Megan Grosvenor Munoz, a co-owner of Manitou Island Transit. *** Leelanau finds itself at the top of a list of counties accused in a federal lawsuit of overstating the number of people who legally should be allowed to vote. The lawsuit was filed by a Republican activist concerned that voter fraud could turn the outcome of the 2020 election, specifically pointing out that Pres. Donald Trump carried Michigan by only .4 %.
