The Empire Asparagus Festival represents the kick-off to the summer season as hundreds of visitors descended upon the coastal village.

“This acts as a first festival of the year and does tend to do give local people the opportunity to get together before the craziness. It has very relaxed atmosphere and the weather made for a fabulous day,” event organizer Paul Skinner said. “This promotes local farmers, food venders and entertainment from northwest Michigan.”

Skinner reports that although the numbers aren’t finalized the festival is on par, if not had a little higher attendance than usual.
