Leelanau Township approves ballot language

Leelanau Township unanimously approved resolutions for ballot language proposals of two upcoming millage renewals at its regular meeting on Tuesday. The ballot proposals for millage renewals of continued police services as well as for facility, road improvements and equipment will be submitted to township voters at the Nov. 4, 2025 election.

The township’s police services millage would be renewed at and increased up to the original voted 0.2500 mills ($0.25 per $1,000 of taxable value) and levied for four years from 2025 through 2028 inclusive, raising an estimated $126,735 in the first year the millage is levied. The revenue may then be dispersed to Leelanau County for the provision of contracts for police services and related equipment.

According to the previous law enforcement agreement, the sheriff will provide the township with general law enforcement services which include, but are not limited to, enforcement of township ordinances as well as 40 hours per week coverage with a 10 hour shift, four days per week. The schedule may be modified as needed by assigned deputy sheriffs after consultation with the sheriff command structure and the township.
